The European Centre at IRENEE comprises 10 lecturer-researchers. In accordance with the Five-Year Plan 2013-2017, its scientific activities are focused on two major themes. The first continues on from the theme of the preceding four-year plan, focusing on the respect of national identity in the European framework, which leads the members of the European Centre to examine the evolution and future of the European framework and the institutional system of the European Union. It is entitled “National Identity and Emergence of a Plurinational Federation”. The second theme has a material rather than an institutional dimension, and consists of analysing certain European Union policies in their different facets, placing the accent on the challenges they represent for the sovereignty of States. The environmental and energy policies are a clear model. It is entitled “Environment, Energy and Sustainable Development: Challenges for the Sovereignty of States?” The Centre also regularly organises workshops on current European issues. For example: the United Kingdom and the European Union, the 2014 European elections, and the European Union and green taxation.
